At Heart Health and Fitness, we offer both 1:1 and group sessions face-to-face and online.
EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY CONSULTATION
During your first exercise physiology consultation, we will collect information regarding your current and previous health status and exercise levels. We will also discuss any goals you have and together will devise an exercise program which can be completed through the clinic, your own gym or at home. You may also undergo some physical assessments that will assist us with your program prescription to ensure it is safe and effective.
Subsequent consultations can be used for one-on-one training sessions or to review and re-assess. During the review consultation, program adjustments (including progressions, regressions and alterations) can be made as required, assessments and goals can be reviewed and any questions will be answered.
GROUP EXERCISE SESSIONS
To help you fit exercise into your healthy new lifestyle we have Open Class Sessions where you can come into the clinic and complete your program. During these times, our exercise physiologists will be available to answer any questions, ensure you are using the correct technique and adjust and progress your program as required.
Open Class Sessions are on:
Tuesday's: 7:00am - 12:00pm, 3:00pm - 7:00pm
Thursday's: 7:00am - 12:00pm, 3:00pm - 7:00pm
Saturday's: 8:00am - 12:00pm
Casual and multi-class passes are available. All class packs carry a 6 month expiry date.
BODY COMPOSITION (DXA) SCAN
A dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan is the gold standard measure of body composition. This scan uses very low dose radiation (roughly equivalent to the radiation you would receive on a flight to Sydney) to assess the amount of muscle, bone and fat in your body, and where it is. You will be given a 2-page report and expert explanation of your results.
AEROBIC CAPACITY (VO2max) TEST
An aerobic capacity (VO2max) test is the gold standard measure of fitness or cardiorespiratory capacity. Information from this test can be used to assess your maximum aerobic capacity (fitness), metabolic/ventilator thresholds and risk of developing chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. Information from this test can also be used to prescribe exercise intensity specific to your abilities and thresholds which will maximise your performance and fitness gains with training.
VO2max tests can be completed on a treadmill or bicycle ergometer (please advise us in advance of your preference).
For this test to be accurate, you must give a maximal effort. As such, you may be asked to get medical clearance prior to completing this test. A quick and simple screening questionnaire can be administered over the phone to assess your potential risk of an adverse event during exercise.
Want more information about making (and sustaining) a heart healthy lifestyle?
Need a little extra guidance to make sure you're making the right choices?
Our lifestyle workshops are designed to work with you and others in similar situations to come up with solutions to your concerns. We purposely don't lecture (as much as possible) and facilitate healthy discussions and brainstorming so that you get the most out of the workshops.
We want you to get the most out of each workshop and make sure you take home practical tips, advice and action plans that you can implement straight away.
