Background / experience:
Recently finished my course in December of 2019 and graduated in Feb 2020. Have completed various practical placements across my 4-year university degree that allowed me to conduct 1 on 1 individual sessions, fitness assessments as well as multiple group exercise sessions/classes.
Education and qualifications:
- Murdoch University: Bachelor of Sports and Exercise science.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Exercise Physiology
- Qualification : Accredited Exercise Scientist and Accredited Exercise Physiologist
What do you love about what you do?
I love being able to coach and educate clients on the benefits exercise can have on your body not only physically but mentally. A lot of clients fear exercise particularly if they have a recently diagnosed health condition or an injury that’s burdened them for years. I love that Exercise physiology is a well-rounded approach that involves adapting exercise around one’s lifestyle goals as well as providing the client with the knowledge of the most recent evidence-based research.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part about my job is helping people of all ages, shapes, sizes and circumstances change their mindset towards exercise rehabilitation mentally and physically. I love working alongside watching them grow as an individual and progress in their abilities to complete tasks that help them gain back their confidence and independence.
Tell us a good news story about one of your clients?
During my final year of prac I had a client with a rare lung condition who previously had multiple bad experiences attending various gyms which always ended up with her leaving hurt physically and mentally. She attended the clinic with goals to improve her fitness, function and overall mindset towards her health. Formerly the client couldn’t exercise without knee pain or shortness of breath and particularly noted she always found her weight was increasing not decreasing which damaged her confidence in herself. In just 6 months working at Heart, health and fitness she improved her overall functional capacity, lost 20kg (and kept it off), gained a healthier relationship with food as well as improving her confidence towards herself and her health. Currently she is working towards her next goal of completing the HBF 12km event and we couldn’t be prouder.
What are your goals?
My goals as a practitioner is to help as many people as possible improve their confidence in themselves physically and mentally through evidence-based exercise rehabilitation and lifestyle modification.
